CBS News Coverage of the Republican Convention

I had to laugh - here was Brian Ross, CBS Reporter, telling Diane Sawyer about all the limos and private aircraft bringing Republicans into Tampa for the National Republican Convention. Translated? Ah yes, those bad guys, "The Rich!"

The spin is obviously meant to reflect POTUS' chant about "the rich." I guess the only difference is mebbe supposed to be that Democrats don't fly to their convention in private aircraft and don't ride in limos.

I trust Americans will 'read between the lines' and take this obvious slanted coverage for what it is. Now I can't wait to see how they spin the Democrat's Convention in POTUS favor.

Viva prosperity!

HBO's Weekly show - The Newsroom

I've just watched the season finale of HBO's original series The Newsroom. Throughout its run it has been a mixture of handsome men and beautiful women, office romances and an anti-Republican/Tea Party chant throughout.

Jane Fonda, an actress with demonstrated Leftist leanings, portrayed Leona Lansing, CEO of the imaginary Atlantis World Media (AWM), and the parent company of Atlantis Cable News (ACN). Although she was not seen each week, Aaron Sorkin, the show's primary writer, managed to skillfully weave their obvious politial viewss throughout each week's show.

Jeff Daniels, who I admired with his portrayal of Colonel Joshua Chamberlin in the movie Gettysburg, is the on-air prime-time anchor of the ACN's evening news. His character, Will McAvoy, acting as a mouthpiece of the Left, spewed Sorkin's (and Fonda's) vitriolic dialogue as if it was fact.

The slick series was fast-moving and the dialogue snappy. The show's platform reflected the Leftist spin of American major media networks today, giving viewers a skewed picture of those who support Tea Party ideals and the conservative agenda of the Republican Party.

I trust viewers, however, sawthrough the charade of what was definitely entertaining yet terribly biased.

The Phony and the Real

One of my financial advisers advised me to invest in municipal bonds as the interest earned is not taxable. When I asked what happens if the municipality goes belly up he said, "They'll just raise taxes." Unfortunately, he's probably right. But as a matter of principle I have not purchased any.

My question is proving to be prophetic as we watch cities in California and elsewhere declaring bankruptcy - just like the Socialist countries of Spain, Greece et al. Communities throughout the U.S. will be following no doubt.

The Great Depression lead to the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Perhaps this Great Depression we are living through will lead to the election of an American who cares first about Americans, not the "world community."

Do you remember one of the first things POTUS did when he was elected? He went to Berlin to declare "We" had won." We are finding out who he was referring to. And it wasn't the U.S.

I am proud of my Irish ethnicity and aware of the tribulations and sufferings of my ancestors. But I remain an American first! And my concerns are for this nation first. In November I trust our electorate will see through the phony and embrace the real.

A Midleton Irish Whiskey story

We were meeting a Cleveland Plain Dealer reporter at Cleveland’s The Harp Irish Pub and Restaurant. Janet Cho was going to do a story on our search for the family of Irish-born Michael Corcoran. He was an Indians Wars infantryman and Medal of Honor recipient. I and my buddy Blaine, a Vietnam medic and full-blown alcoholic, had already located Corcoran’s grave in Calvary Cemetery. We had already begun the process to secure a MOH stone for his resting place and were hoping a story in the Plain Dealer would locate any of Corcoran’s descendants that might still be in the Cleveland area.

Upon entering the The Harp, Blaine bellied up to the bar. “What’s the best Irish whiskey you have?” he blurted.  I saw it coming what was coming next as there behind the bar, nestled upside down in its own special wooden cradle, was a bottle of Midleton Irish Whiskey. The young barmaid replied, “Why, that would be our Midleton sir.”

“How much does a shot cost?”

“It’s $25.00 a shot sir.”

Blaine took a hard gulp. “What’s a shot of your next-best Irish whiskey cost?”

November election - Andrew McCarthy

This is about the 2nd or 3rd most important issue about the Nov. 6th election.

Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election.  If Mitt wins the nomination, I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who have hesitation on that score, I'd just ask you to keep four things in mind:

1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78
2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year
3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August
4.. Justice Ginsburg turned 81 about a week ago.

In addition, Justice Ginsburg has Pancreatic Cancer and Justice Stephens has already said he would retire and is just waiting for Obama to be reelected.

The next president could appoint as many as 4 new Justices over next 8 years. This election is about more than ObamaCare Tax.

We wish them all well, of course, but the brute fact is that whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one new member of the Supreme Court, in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come.

If you don't think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think you're smokin' something funky.

So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didn't get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win, imagine this: SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER?

After you have stopped gasping, kindly forward this  to your list of concerned citizens!
Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

"It can't happen again"

It's OUR money!

                                                 JC Sullivan

Northfield, Ohio. “Distinguished Professor of  Politics” Peter Dreier, an Occidental College leftist teacher, has authored  The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century. It is a self-proclaimed social justice Hall of Fame. As you can imagine, the list contains the names of the far left in America.

In a recent television interview Dreier portrayed  Social Security as once considered Socialism but  today “most Tea Party Supporters, for example, support Social Security.”

Well, yeah, we’ve HAD to pay into it our entire working lives. It’s OUR MONEY! Do I need to remind him and those who would purchase his book that many who have not worked and have NOT paid into it are receiving Social Security payments?

The man is absurd. And our government continues to deceive and betray the American people.

Our Citizens Need Better Health Care Options

Following another story of another wacko toting a gun, I heard news stories that he was a “far right wing” extremist. Perhaps that will be true but major news media outlets have previously referred to the Tea Party as “right wing extremists.”

First and foremost the guy is obviously a nut. The gun control crowd will shout “See, we told you,” when they should be addressing the issue of mental health.

I’m not a socialist but this nation beggars better mental  health attention be made available to those who need it, be they seeking it themselves or directed to receive it from psychiatrists et al.
